PROFILE
Katsuya Matsubara received the Ataka Award while studying at Tokyo University of the Arts. He also won the top-ranking prizes at the Tibor Varga International Violin Competition and the International Fritz Kreisler Competition. After he finished studying, he served as the concertmaster of the New Japan Philharmonic Concertmaster for many years.
Katsuya Matsubara has been developing various activities such as unaccompanied recital series, Toru Takemitsu’s chamber-music complete works and Beethoven complete string quartet and recitals held at Wigmore Hall in London. He is also known as an arranger and his representative works are J.S. Bach: “Goldberg Variations” and “Prelude and Fugue” string quintet version and Brahms: string quintet No. 2 orchestration arrangement version. He also received numerous music awards including the 17th Kenzo Nakajima Music Award, New Face Award at the 55th Agency for Cultural Affairs Art Festival.
I use two different models of Archet bow “D. Peccatte” and “F.N.Voirin” I was very impressed with the suppleness and the response that can express even a delicate touch, just like a part of my arm.
