PROFILE
Yoko Kubo began playing violin at the age of 3 under the guidance of his father. She moved to Tokyo to study with Izumi Orita and Nobuyoshi Murayama, and excellent guidances of Jeanne Isnard and Hideo Saito at Toho Gakuen School of music.
Soon after graduating from Toho Gakuen music high school, she won 3rd Place in International Tchaikovsky Competition, and studied abroad under tutorships of Rene Benedetti, Joseph Calvet, and Joseph Szigeti. She won the 2nd Place International violin competition Premio Paganini in 1964 and the1st Place Alberto Curci Violin International Competition. She had been a professor at Tokyo College of Music until March of the year 2011. Now she is a member of KIRI Quintet and Japan String Quartet.
I play on Ohse’s octagonal bow modeled after Tourte. The bow is strong and highly expressive. The sound is brilliant and possesses rich overtone.
